Ian Patton, sitting at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs

About me:

I’m Ian Patton, and I created The Wild Places as the culmination of a short lifetime spent in the outdoors. Through adventure in the outdoors, I have developed a deep connection with the land. As I look around our world today, I worry about the loss of that connection. I hope to foster, empower, and educate people so they may continue, as I am, to grow their relationships with our Wild Places.

Experience Meets passion

My connection with our lands has been a focus of more than just personal growth; it has shaped my career. I have worked to build both hard skills in the backcountry with certifications from the American Canoe Association and in wilderness medicine. I have also honed my skills as a classically trained journalist, publishing work in multiple outdoor publications. I will continue to grow as it is my responsibility to be skilled when in the wilderness and a professional once I am back home.
